Blue Planet Ecosystems
The Science
The Vienna Biotech Startup Blue Planet turns sunlight into seafood by developing replicating aquatic ecosystems. Algae convert CO2 and sunlight into sugars, amino and fatty acids and make them available for zooplankton and fish. This usually happens on a large scale in oceans and lakes. Blue Planet is replicating this process on land devolping a system to produce sustainable seafood.
The Art
This mural in the Blue Planet Headquarters in Vienna is inspired by the legendary japanese woodblock print “The Great Wave off Kanagawa” from Hokusai. Sunlight is piercing through the blue waters fueling Photosynthesis and micro-organism growth. Ultimately a majestic fish is emerging from the waves in Zentangle style.
